New Build in Green Belt

This luxurious 6,000 sq ft home is located in the Green Belt area of the Chiltern Hills. The bucolic surroundings and planning restrictions of the Green Belt, coupled with it being an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) presented many design challenges.

The approach to this dwelling is through cast iron traditional gates which offer you a glimpse of the beyond. These gates are flanked by perfectly proportioned well dressed entrance pillars.

This bespoke home was designed with simple symmetrical lines with details on the windows towards Georgian dimensions and sliding sash windows.  This created an elegant but imposing frontage that married comfortably with the surroundings.

Whilst maximising the size of the dwelling was a project requirement, so to was working within the restrictive planning constraints of the area.  The use of single storey elements to the side helped to create the spacing between dwellings the planners sought.

Inside, the layout over 3 floors maximised the footprint, every space was utilised.  The repetition of roof lines at ground and first storey, with triangular windows for accent details, created a harmonised look.

This First Floor extension was set in a barn in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Our brief was to extend the first floor to include a balcony allowing our client to appreciate the stunning views in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Our client wanted to replace their existing conservatory with a large extension to their living room. A bright and airy feel was provided by bi fold doors and well positioned skylights. A small front extension replaced the existing garage.

Extension & Garden Design

A contemporary extension and garden project.  The juxtaposition of the classic Arts & Craft style dwelling against the modern, crisp garden design works well.  The use of contemporary materials in the garden, coupled with sharp linear spaces helped to overcome a very steep slope to the garden.
The extension was designed to help bring some elements of the the new garden into view, furthermore it acted as the centre line for the water features.  These water features helped to take the eye further back down the garden and negate the obvious slope to the site.

Old House / New House

A very tired 1960s property.  The property was completely transformed and a full 3 floors of usable space was incorporated into the design.  From the drawings you can see that space was fully utilised and the property brought right up to date with a very modern look. 

Contemporary remodelling

The exiting front elevation fo this property was dated and in a "time warp" according to the owners.  The house needed modernising and bringing up to date.

As well as adding extra space, converting the garage, an additional bedroom and bathroom to the first floor, the project brief included a totally new contemporary look for the front elevation.

This was achieved by adding en extension to the front to create layering, this in turn added depth and interest.  The look was completed with a modern render finish and windows to match the new look.

The property was transformed from a tired looking 1960s suburban house in to a crisp, clean contemporary home.

A Victorian Semi Detached property that required a sympathetic side and rear extension.  Undertaken in two phases the side extension is subservient to the original dwelling and compliments the Victorian proportions and look.
The rear extension provided an opportunity to increase the size of the very small kitchen and open the space out, suitable for family living.

Curved Wall Extension

Our brief from our client was to extend and renovate their house whilst being sympathetic to the Arts and Crafts interior.
We designed a curved wall linking the garage to the house to create an office. Internally we reversed the staircase so it leads to the hall rather than the lounge, retaining the original features of the staircase. We created a large open hall by removing the existing WC.

New Build Home

A new build contemporary home set within the Chiltern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).  The use of local materials with contemporary elements produced a light but homely feel.  A garden redesign with simple lines and designated areas completed the exterior.
Internally the space was geared towards family living with open plan areas flooded with natural light.  The high specification finish was carried throughout the interior.

The existing cramped dark kitchen was in desperate need of modernising.  The use of all the available space, coupled with expansive use of glass transformed the rear of this property.  The outside elevations created a new sleek look that dovetailed comfortably with the existing.  Inside the kitchen was light, spacious and contemporary.

Orangery extension

New Garden Office & Annex

An unused outbuilding in a Green Belt location was left unused for many years.
The brief to create two separate areas, an office and a bedroom with ensuite for visiting guests.
The building was transformed on the outside, mirroring the oak, flint and clay bricks of the main dwelling.  A traditional build with materials from the local area.
Inside was contrasting, with a modern, clean look and feel with use of glass blocks to help transfer light from the velux windows.
